Freewire’s Boost Charger is a compact, powerful, and versatile EV charging system supported by the internal Battery Cube, which houses 96 modular battery packs. As design consultant, Jochen worked closely with product marketing and engineering to develop the charger’s external form, including status lights, user interface, cable and plug handling, and service access. His role also extended to concept development and prototyping of cable routing, holster placement, and installation considerations for both US and EU markets.

He further contributed to the design of the Battery Cube itself, consisting of eight stacks of 12 battery packs, along with the DC/DC power converter, HVAC, and supporting components. His work encompassed material selection, serviceability, and branding, and culminated in the development of the next-generation Boost Charger Pro, advancing Freewire’s role as a leader in EV infrastructure.
